Dear Families,
The light dusting of snow that Orange experienced on the long weekend heralded a reminder that winter has well and truly arrived. I hope that families were able to escape the cold, either by travelling to warmer parts or by staying indoors.
Stewart House
Each year 1600 public school children come to Stewart House from many parts of NSW and the ACT. Stewart House does amazing work to provide students with opportunities they may not otherwise be able to access. Stewart House is supported financially by donations from teachers and other Department of Education employees. This week, until the end of the term, we have 2 Calare students accessing this program which is held at Curl Curl in Sydney. We know they are having an amazing time.
Semester 1 Academic Reports
All students will receive their academic reports in Week 10. The new report format will provide you with information relating to their learning and achievement for Terms 1 and 2 of this year. If you have any queries about your child’s progress, please contact the office to make an appointment to speak to their teacher.
Return of Mr Bingon
Tomorrow, we see the return of our substantive Principal, Mr Bingon. He has spent the past 6 weeks taunting us with his beautiful photographs of the British Isles. He did mention to me at one stage that he might not return. I assured him that I would be making a missing person report if this eventuated! Despite enjoying his well-earned break, I know he is keen to return to the fold at Calare and catch up with the kids. As I vacate his seat, and hand back the leadership baton, I want to thank all staff and the Calare community for the support I’ve had in his absence.
Mrs Thompson
Proud (Relieving) Principal of Calare

WHAT'S HAPPENING AROUND OUR SCHOOL
Leo the Dog
Leo the Lab had his first day and what a hit he was with our students!
He loved that many students were respectful and asked his handler if it was okay to pat him. It was also great to see students noticing his body language and identifying if he was happy or uncomfortable.
Leo enjoyed joining students as they listened to stories and watched on as they worked hard on their Leo portraits using adjectives to describe him. Students had the opportunity to interact with him as he played fetch and can’t wait to play again this week.

NSW Premier’s Spelling Bee
Once again, Calare students in Years 3-6 participated in the Premier’s Spelling Bee which is designed to assist students to expand their vocabulary and improve their spelling.
Classes completed activities that encourage students to become more confident users of language leading to improved literacy skills in conjunction with the NSW English syllabus.
Class competitions were held with finalists progressing to a Stage final. One winner from each stage then goes on to compete in the regional final.
Congratulations to our 2025 representatives, Hamish Yeomans (Year 4) and Elina Taylor (Year 5)
Combined Primary Schools Band Day
On Monday 16th June, 11 of our before-school band students attended a fabulous Schools Band Day at the Orange Conservatorium as part of Make Music Week.
Over 150 students attended from all over Orange, under the baton of the wonderful Mrs Chris Mickle.
In only 2 and a half hours, they learned 3 full pieces of music and performed them for parents and friends.
Our Calare students were beautifully behaved and demonstrated their talents with style and good humour! Miss Hollie and I were so proud of them all!
Debating
Last Wednesday, the Calare A Debating team versed Orange East Public School in Round 3 of the Kerrie Parkes Western Challenge Debating Competition. The topic was Primary-aged students should be required to play sport on the weekend and Calare was the Affirmative.
For the first time, our team proposed a model to fix an existing problem and argued for its implementation. The Orange East team argued strongly that personal choice trumps government initiatives. The adjudicator, Mrs Eccleston, praised the debaters for a well-argued debate on a topic that would have suited high school students.
Orange East were victorious with three very confident speeches.
Well done to Reuben, Paddy, Rebecca and Francis. A big 'thank you' to Kasey and Archie for stepping up to be Chairperson and Timekeeper respectively.
Four students from Calare recently participated in the Inclusive School Sport competition in Bathurst, taking part in Boccia.
The team put in a good effort and demonstrated teamwork, finishing in 7th place in the primary competition. They represented our school well and showed dedication throughout the event.
We appreciate the parents who provided transportation and support for our students, with some parents even jumping in and umpiring games.
Well done to our Boccia team for their efforts! We look forward to more opportunities to support sports and inclusiveness at Calare in the future.
Netball
Exciting news from the netball court! Our Calare PSSA netball team achieved a thrilling victory against OSSA, winning the match with a score of 15-13. Our players showcased incredible skill and sportsmanship, and we couldn’t be prouder of their teamwork and dedication.
A big thank you goes out to OSSA for being such great sports during the game. It’s always wonderful to compete with teams that embody the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Looking ahead, our team will be taking on OPS in the quarter-finals on the 25th of June. We wish our players the best of luck and can’t wait to see their continued success on the court!
Western Cross Country
Calare proudly sent Lara, Marley, Vann, Hugo, Cooper, Harper and Logan to compete at the Western Cross Country Carnival at Gosling Creek on Wednesday 11th June.
Each of our students went the extra mile and did Calare proud!
A huge congratulations to Lara and Cooper, who’ve raced ahead to qualify for the NSW State Cross Country Championships in July!
Rugby League
A shorthanded Rugby League side from Calare made it to Bathurst last week to take part in the PSSA Rugby League ‘Classic Shield’. Despite losing several players to sickness that morning, the rest of the team braved the cold to take on other teams from the Western area.
Calare played Glenroi Heights in their first match before taking on Mulyan in the final. We were able to secure wins in both matches due to the determination and teamwork of the players.
A special mention goes to team captain Vann for his terrific leadership on the field and Tate for playing some outstanding matches and being voted ‘Players Player’ by his peers.
We would also like to thank to all the parents, carers and supporters who came along. We appreciate you taking the time to transport students and cheer on the team! Our next leg of the competition will be in Parkes on the 27th June (Friday, Week 9).
Well done boys!
Mr Brown, Mr Seib and Mr Corcoran
