Dear Families,
With the mid-year break upon us I hope that they are rejuvenating and that you have a great time with family and friends.
We are Remarkable!
It’s official. Calare has once again auditioned successfully to participate the Schools Spectacular held in Sydney. We are so fortunate to have such dedicated teachers as Mrs Keed (Dance) and Ms Parker (Choir) who produce high quality auditions to ensure our students can access this statewide extravaganza. And of course, we congratulate our talented kids.
This year’s theme is “Remarkable”. Auditions for our Dance Troupe and Choir will be held in the very near future. Due to overwhelming number of schools wishing to be involved, our dance allocation has been significantly reduced so students that are in both groups are encouraged to audition for both, to enhance their chance of selection.
Staffing
After years of securing the services of Mrs Elise Nielson in a temporary capacity at Calare, we have been advised by the Department of Education that she has now gained permanent appointment. Elise is well-regarded by both staff and parents as a hardworking, compassionate teacher and we are delighted that she is a fully-fledged member of staff. We are very fortunate to have her expertise and passion support our students.
Premier’s Spelling Bee
As mentioned in our last newsletter, Stages 2 and 3 Spelling Bee finals have now been held. Congratulations to all students who participated, either in class competitions or as finalists. Certificates for class finalists and our Calare representatives will be presented at Friday’s assemblies.
This Friday is the last day of Term 2. Monday 21st July is a Staff Development Day and all students will return for Term 3 on Tuesday 22nd July.
Enjoy the holiday break

WESTERN DANCE FESTIVAL
Congratulations to Mrs Keed, Ms Nielson and our amazing students for their outstanding contribution to the 2025 Western NSW Dance Festival - Bathurst Showcase. I was a privileged to attend the Monday night performance to witness the incredible talent, creativity, and commitment on display. The festival was a true celebration of the arts in our public schools, and a powerful reminder of the joy and confidence that come when students are given the opportunity to express themselves through dance.
We know that these kinds of opportunities don’t happen without significant effort behind the scenes. Thank you for the countless lunch hours spent rehearsing, organising, costuming, transporting, and encouraging our students. In a year filled with time pressures, and many competing demands, the commitment of teachers to providing this experience is deeply appreciated.

IGNITE MATHS EXPLORATION DAY
Last week we took 37 of our students to Bletchington for the Ignite Maths Exploration Day – and what a brain-boosting adventure it was!
With a theme of Empires and Treasure, students tackled a full day of mathematical mayhem, including Olympiad-style questions, engineering challenges, mapping tasks, logic puzzles, and even a maths-themed escape room.
A massive thank you to Mr Allen, Miss Lim and Mrs Westgeest at Bletchington for hosting and organising such a fantastic day – your hard work created an unforgettable experience full of challenge, collaboration, and creativity!
YEAR 6 FUNDRAISER
Year 6 is pleased to share the success of our recent Coin Trail fundraiser! The event was a fantastic achievement, with 4 Green taking the lead by winning all three categories. As a school, we raised an impressive total of $1,934.40. Our students collectively laid out over 95 kilograms of coins, stretching a remarkable 453 meters in length. Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm and contributions, which made this fundraiser such a memorable event!
BOYS BASKETBALL
The boys basketball team took on a well-drilled cohesive OPS team on Wednesday 18th June. Unfortunately Calare were defeated 64-4 but our boys played with heart and kept their heads up til the final siren. Well done boys!
BOYS TOUCH FOOTBALL
Last week our boy's touch football team braved a chilly day to take on Wallerawang — and their efforts paid off with a fantastic 12–1 win!
The boys played with skill, teamwork, and determination, showing just how strong Calare sport can be. A huge well done to all players!
Try scorers were:
Hugo ×2, Zane, Isaac, Bailey, Oscar, Levai ×3, Kyan, and Vann ×2.
A big thank you to Wallerawang for being such great sports and bringing a positive spirit to the game — it was a pleasure to play you!
We now move on to the semi-finals and will keep you posted on where, when, and who we're up against. Go Calare!
RUGBY UNION
The Calare Rugby Union Team has shown resilience and determination on the field. Despite a challenging start with losses against OPS and Forbes, our players have bounced back with remarkable spirit, securing victories in our last two matches against OSSA and Bletchington.
The boys should be incredibly proud of their behaviour both on and off the field, and we encourage them to carry this momentum into next year.
State Basketball
Lara was down in Sutherland in Week 8, representing Western at the State Basketball Championships! She was a fierce competitor on the court, showing skill, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship. We’re so proud of how she’s representing Calare — go Lara!
State Rugby League
Isaac and Vann were in Sydney during Week 8, proudly representing the Western Region in the 12 Years State Rugby League Championships! They faced some tough competition but continued to show grit, determination, and true Calare spirit on and off the field. Well done, boys — you’ve done Calare proud!

Orange Theatre Company is thrilled to announce its upcoming production of Honk Jr. The Musical, a delightful, family-friendly adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic tale, The Ugly Duckling.
Honk Jr. is packed with memorable songs, hilarious characters, and moments that will touch the heart. But beyond the fun, this production shares an important message: it’s a story of tolerance, kindness, and acceptance. As audiences follow Ugly’s journey to find his place in the world, they’ll be reminded that our differences are what make us special — and that true beauty lies within.
We are especially proud to announce the involvement of a student from Calare Public School who is helping bring this story to life:
- Lana Cantrill - Ensemble
We would love for members of the school community to come together and support these talented students, along with the rest of the amazing cast. We encourage families, staff, and friends to join us for an hour of laughter, inspiration, and great entertainment.
